Help my PC’s crashed!
A computer that just seems to have stopped working altogether can be very worrying, especially when it fails to respond to your mouse or keyboard commands. People often refer to this situation as a ‘crash’ and although it sounds serious, the good news is that there are several ways to identify and solve this problem without causing any damage to your PC.
Signs and Syptoms
Sometimes your computer will tell you there is a problem by displaying a warning screen. At other times, perhaps while you are trying to save a document or in the middle of another process, the computer will simply freeze and will not let you do anything. If this happens, don’t panic. Whatever there’s a problem with your hardware or software, there are several simple ways to find out what’s wrong and get your PC up and running again in no time.
A Few top tips
- Keep at leas 5 gig of free space on your hard drive disk
- Defragment your hard drive
- Unplug external devices not need at this time like printers, external storage to see it this helps.
- Make sure your computer security is up to date.
- Back up your important files and folders
One cause of crashes in Windows is fragmentation of the data stored on your computers hard disk.
Fragmentation is caused as Windows erases files from the hard disk and writes new files into the empty spaces. This causes single files on the hard drive to be gradually spit up into lots of small bits, rather than stored in one place. You should regularly deferment your hard disk using disk defragmenter.
